Mary has been competing at Combined Driving Events since 1975. She has competed with a variety of horses and ponies with success at most of the major East Coast Events. Mary has a Masters Degree in Special Education, and has worked with special needs children for 25 years. She brings her educational background and experience to teaching new drivers and promoting the sport of Carriage Driving. Mary has represented the United States in four Paralympic World Driving Championships. The highlight of her driving career has been winning an individual gold medal in 1994 at the championships held in Hartbury, England, along with helping team USA to 2 team bronze medals.
Mary has recently moved to the Carriage Barn in Newton, New Hampshire. In addition to teaching driving and training horses at the facility, Mary is filling the role of Development Director to continue the Carriage Barn’s mission of offering quality instruction to children and adults of all abilities. Mary is a past President of the United States Driving for the Disabled, and has been a tireless supporter of making the sport of Driving available to individuals with disabilities. Her latest efforts include raising money for the Carriage Barn to purchase a Handicap Accessible Carriage for their Therapeutic Driving Program.
